Tuebingen 2012 Informational Meeting

The plans for the 2012 Tuebingen week are coming along nicely. The dates for the trip have been set for Sunday, June 17 - Sunday, June 24, 2012. There will be two meetings in January to learn more about the trip. This is a final call to express interest or attend one of the TeaHaus meetings so that we can finalize the trip roster. The two January meetings will be held as follows:

  • Wednesday, January 11, 2012: 7pm at the TeaHaus, 204-206 N. 4th Ave, Ann Arbor
  • Monday, January 16, 2012: 7pm at the TeaHaus, 204-206 N. 4th Ave, Ann Arbor

We hope to see all interested participants at one of these meetings. If you are unable to attend and are still interested in the trip, please respond via email to: Tubingen@aiahv.org.
Here are the plans for the week:

  • Sunday, June 17: Arrive Tuebingen, meet with host families, evening punt boats on the Neckar River starting from Hoelderlinturm, dock at Casino for picinic with host families, local architects & city representatives
  • Monday, June 18: Tuebingen Day One, reception at city hall with mayors, historical walking tour, bus over Nordring to university Schnarrenberg, and 'suburb' Hagelloch, evening out at restaurant in Tuebingen
  • Tuesday, June 19: Tuebingen Day Two, meet at Europaplatz for bike tour, visit businesses, apartment and social service in Loretto, Muehlenviertel, French Quarter, afternoon workshops on:1) mobility concepts & public spaces (car sharing), 2) Sustainability concepts (mixed use, civersity & walkability), 3) Housing cooperatives 4) Ecological Issues (rain water harvesting), dinner in Loretto, evening presentations by Ann Arbor group at the d.a.i.
  • Wednesday, June 20: Visits to architectural highlights: Paul Horn Arena, Landratsamt, Niemeyer house, Neuapostolische Kirche, afternoon visits to Paleontological Museum, Castle Museum, evening reception at Cloister Bebenhausen to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the German-American Institute
  • Thursday, June 21: Regional tour to Swabian Alps, Pfulligen Stadthalle, Lichenstein Castle, Biosphere area, Urach, afternoon thermal baths-Beuren
  • Friday, June 22: Stuttgart Day, take train/S-bahn/bus to: Wissenhofsiedlung, lunch biergarten, tour new city archive/library, Neckarpark, Mercedes-Museum, Staatsgalerie, Music School, downtown walking tour, dinner, evening operetta "Die Fledermaus" or pub crawl
  • Saturday, June 23: Visits to Lake Constance, Dreiseitl Studio, or individual trips with host families, evening farewell party
  • Sunday, June 24: Departure; continue on to Berlin for optional side trip
