AIA Detroit has invited AIA Huron Valley members to join in their support for a local non-profit, Life Remodeled. In their own words, “Life Remodeled is a Detroit-based nonprofit that seeks to remodel lives along with neighborhoods, schools and homes.”
Most of our firms participate in philanthropic events on a regular basis. As firms, we do this in order to make a difference in our community. Architects and planners both should be advocates for a better city.
The goal of the program, as described by Life Remodeled :
“Over a span of six days, we will mobilize 10,000 volunteers to clean up 300 Detroit city blocks surrounding Denby schools, and we want your employees to volunteer. Volunteer activity includes mowing overgrown grass and weeds, cutting brush, removing debris, painting and planting.
Blight removal makes a huge impact on safety. One year after Life Remodeled and our partners invested in Cody Rouge, neighborhood crime was lower in 10 of 11 categories.
We partner with more than 250 businesses, churches and organizations, and they send us groups ranging from as small as two volunteers to 3,700 per company. Life Remodeled and our partners provide the tools, oversight, and lunch, and we enjoy delivering impactful and highly-organized volunteer experiences.”
Please join our neighbor chapter in this volunteer opportunity! AIA Detroit will provide an AIA Detroit team T-shirt.
